CALL FOR PROBE INTO ZIA'S PLANE CRASH

By Tariq Butt

ISLAMABAD -- Senior leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid and former federal minister Ijazul Haq has claimed that the United States created hurdles in the probe into the 1988 C-130 crash in which his father, president Gen. Ziaul Haq, was killed.

He told the reporters that he would not point a finger at a person or a country for the murder of his father but said that it was a fact that the United States did not send an FBI team to Pakistan to probe the plane crash.

Ijazul Haq demanded that a criminal investigation be conducted into the plane crash. He said that former pilot Akram Awan, who was under arrest in the Kahuta conspiracy case, told a commission that Israeli intelligence agency Mossad delivered material to destroy the plane.

Meanwhile, former senior spymaster Brig. (ret.) Imtiaz Ahmed has alleged that the US assassinated Ziaul Haq in collaboration with internal powers of Pakistan.

He told a private TV channel that the US was behind the Bahawalpur plane crash in which Ziaul Haq was killed.

The former senior spymaster said that the former army chief Aslam Beg also says that the plane crash was not an accident, but sabotage.
