In the city of Oakland (across the bay from San Francisco), there sits an abandoned train station in an industrial area -- West Oakland, to be precise.  According to some, the station was built in the very early 20th century, making it roughly a hundred years old at the time of these photographs.  The station was also supposedly abandoned finally
in the 1960s.

Abandoned Train Station in Oakland, California - Remains of the Amtrak Station on 17th Street. From Surreal Coconut.

The train platforms appear to be elevated by one storey, although it is strange to imagine the raised rails that once corresponded to these platforms.   The central waiting area, inside of the main building with its antiquated plaster, were off limits.  Covering the walls were ornate plaster surfaces from a pre-modern era, also with a few old signs with an advertising terminology no longer used.  Truly a fascinating place, even if the only interior images were obtained only through awkwardly holding the camera up to the window.
