DID you know that one of the most popular celebrity tattoos in the United States is of Rodney Dangerfield? When did “I can’t get no respect” turn into “I need to have Rodney’s face on my chest”?

The US psychological torture system is finally on trial

America has deliberately driven hundreds, perhaps thousands, of

Something remarkable is going on in a Miami courtroom. The cruel methods
US interrogators have used since September 11 to "break" prisoners are
finally being put on trial. This was not supposed to happen. The Bush
administration's plan was to put José Padilla on trial for allegedly
being part of a network linked to international terrorists. But
Padilla's lawyers are arguing that he is not fit to stand trial because
he has been driven insane by the government.

The British Defeat in the South and the Uncertain Bush "Strategy" in
Iraq: "Oil Spots," "Ink Blots," "White Space," or Pointlessness?

Anthony H. Cordesman

There are many definitions of "strategy," some of which are virtually
indistinguishable from "tactics." To use one of the better dictionary
definitions, however, "strategy" is "the science and art of employing
the political, economic, psychological, and military forces of a nation
or group of nations to afford the maximum support to adopted policies in
peace or war."

Rabbit With Forks”: Chaim Soutine’s animals remain gruesomely dead, and yet they take on the kind of half-life that decaying corpses do.

With its sickly greenish cast, the picture of the dead hare on a white tablecloth with a big fork sticking into either side might have inspired the emblematic decomposing rabbit in Roman Polanski’s unforgettable psychological horror film “Repulsion.”

Ms. Moss, who is planning to write an autobiography

Published: February 7, 2006

Kate Moss, Big as Life, in Bronze

Kate Moss as Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, is the new subject of Marc Quinn, the sculptor who made news last year with his marble statue of a naked, disabled, pregnant woman for the long-empty plinth in Trafalgar Square in the heart of London, The Sunday Telegraph of London reported. Mr. Quinn, who described Ms. Moss, right, as ''the iconic beauty of our age,'' is working on five life-size bronzes of her in contorted yoga positions with her feet behind her ears, the newspaper said. It added that they are to be unveiled in two weeks at a gallery in Groningen, the Netherlands, and are expected to be a highlight of Mr. Quinn's exhibition in April 2007 at the Mary Boone Gallery in New York. Ms. Moss, who has been not only a fashion model but also an artists' model for more than a decade, was the subject of a Lucien Freud portrait that sold for more than $7 million in 2004. Ms. Moss, who is planning to write an autobiography, was interviewed by the police in England last week about reports of cocaine use at a studio where her former boyfriend, Pete Doherty, the oft-arrested rocker, was recording.

*WASHINGTON, Feb 21 (IPS) - *If, as she insists, Secretary of State
Condoleezza Rice is determined to make concrete progress toward
achieving George W. Bush's vision of a two-state solution, one in which
Israel would be required to make major territorial concessions, it
appears that she faces a major foe in the White House.
