Google News drops Kos as source, picks up Power Line
by Trix
Mon Feb 14th, 2005 at 21:51:14 PST

A few months ago I posted a diary about Kos being dropped as a source from Google News, and the joy this brought to the right-wingers who claimed responsibility (having written Google to complain about its inclusion).
Well, imagine my surprise today when I discovered that Google News has added Power Line as a source.Read more... )
In the spirit of "what's good for the goose is good for the gander", I propose that we all contact news-feedback@google.com and complain about Power Line being mixed in with legitimate sources.

Burning Man already a hot ticket
SAN FRANCISCO
Burning Man already a hot ticket
Leslie Fulbright, Chronicle Staff Writer
Thursday, January 6, 2005

Burning Man tickets went on sale at noon Wednesday, although the man won't burn for another 239 days, and folks snatched up some 10,000 of them before sundown.

There are 10,000 tickets available for $175, 5,000 for $200 and 5,000 for $225. An unlimited number sell for $250. The pricier tickets don't come with any frills or privileges over the cheap ones.

"It is exciting that we got our act together this year and could get sales going at the first of the year," said spokeswoman Marian Goodell. "It helps us manage our time, money and resources, and fund things as soon as possible."

Nude-Hippie Mansion Du Jour
http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/02/15/BAGU1BAUUE1.DTL

It sounds like a marquee property that would go fast in the red-hot Bay Area housing market: A 1912 mansion that resembles a giant wedding cake, with a gymnasium, a tennis court, a three-bedroom guest house, a cottage and several acres in the Berkeley hills. Read more... )

"We love it,'' said Harrison, who toured the grounds with her friend, Steven Raspa, a San Francisco artist dressed in black with a black hat and a long beard permanently twisted with pieces of wire and a rose protruding from the end.

"I feel it is someone's solemn duty to fill this place with music, art and parties,'' said Harrison, "and who better than us?''

Uri Avnery on Sharm-al-Sheikh--2/12/05
Uri Avnery

“Sharm-al-Sheikh, We Have Come Back Again…”

Nobody called it the “Ophira Conference”. Not even the papers of
the extreme right. Who today even remembers the name Ophira, which was
given to Sharm-al-Sheikh during the Israeli occupation, as a first step
to its annexation?

Optimists will say: This is a good beginning. The cessation of
“Palestinian terrorism” will create a new atmosphere in Israel. The
dismantling of the first settlements will create a crucial
confrontation. The settlers and the nationalist-messianic Right will be
defeated. People will realize that life can be different. The dynamics
of the process will carry Sharon along and he will not be able to stop
it, even if he wants to.

Who is right?

The Eye of the Outsider

The Eye of the Outsider

Have the lunatics taken over the gallery – or have the art critics taken over the asylum? Sean Thomas visits one of the biggest exhibitions ever of Outsider Art in Paris, but wonders why it took so long.

It is a travesty that this important and moving collection goes largely unexhibited – and that what can be exhibited is, of necessity, hidden away in a decidedly titchy bungalow and jumbled up with other items. So, what can we do? At the moment, the Bethlem gallery curators say they are applying for National Heritage funding – i.e. Lottery money – to extend their premises. This request should be met, and generously. Some of the world’s greatest Outsider Art is in the UK; much of it is in hidden away in the vaults of The Royal Bethlem. It needs a proper home.

The Royal Bethlem Hospital Archives and Museum are open from Monday to Friday, 9.30 to 5pm. Admission free. At various times the museum is closed, due to staff shortages: phone ahead on +44 (0)20 8776 4835.

The Royal Bethlem Hospital, Monks Orchard Road, Beckenham, Kent. Nearest station: Eden Park.

Collection de L’Art Brut, 11 Ave de Bergieres, Lausanne, Switzerland. Open 11-1, 2-6, Tuesday-Sunday. Admission 6 Swiss Fr.
