Turkish Government Policies--WashPost 1/26/04
[Some interesting views expressed by the Turkish prime minister: showing a willingness to push for settlement of the Cyprus issue; eagerness to do the necessary to join the EU; great concern about Kurdish aspirations in Iraq; a commitment to harmonizing Islam and democracy in a secular state; agreeing to mediate between Syria and Israel.] washingtonpost.com Democracy And Islam Can Coexist Monday, January 26, 2004; Page A19 This week President Bush will welcome Turkey's prime minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. It looks as if Turkish-U.S. relations are on the mend after a rough year in which Turkey refused to let U.S. troops pass through its territory during the war with Iraq. Last week at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Erdogan told Newsweek and The Post's Lally Weymouth that he and Bush will discuss a settlement of the seemingly intractable Cyprus issue. He also said he will speak to Bush about his concerns that Iraq could come apart. Moreover, he said he's been asked by Syria to act as an intermediary in the Middle East peace process and is willing to do so.( Read more... ) |

I did send this yesterday but its still a media frenzy http://www.deangoesnuts.com/ If you wish to see and hear a more accurate and truthful presentation of the so-called Howard Dean "rant" in Iowa a week ago, here is the way. It takes a bit of work, but is worth it. Here is a guide. First, turn on your sound. Click on the "deangoesnuts.com" link in the attached message from my son Chris. On the next screen scroll down to the link "idiomstudio.com" and click on that. On the next screen click on "Doctor Dean's Caucus Speech." On the next screen click on "Windows Media (500 kbs)" (or "Quick Time" for Apple users) which will download some software that will take about a minute. Wait and the Windows Media Player will play the video for you. This is an amateur video taken by a member of the audience, and includes the sounds and sights of the Dean workers, not just the "rant" by the candidate. A much truer picture of what actually went on. Good luck. http://www.deangoesnuts.com/ Hear the faulknerremix mp3. It's beautiful. |
